Safe Handling and Disposal of Hydrocarbons

Carefully labelled containers.
Stored separately to oxidising agents.

Protective Equipment
Contact with skin should always be avoided.
Safety goggles and closed shoes to be worn.
Lab coat and gloves also preferable, especially when working with acids

Use in the lab
Well-ventilated area, especially for volatile substances
Waft, don’t sniff! (but ideally, don’t waft at all)
DO NOT pour hydrocarbons down the sink.

Waste should be collected in specialised containers which, when full, are carefully sealed and sent to disposal facilities.

Liquid and solid organic waste, as well as organic and inorganic waste, should be separated into different containers. These have different methods of disposal.
