Physical Digestion

Begins in the mouth when teeth break food by cutting or tearing food.

Chemical Digestion

The process of using digestive enzymes to chemically break down the larger, complex molecules in food.

Absorption of Nutrients, Minerals and Water

This mainly occurs in the jejunum section of the small intestine. Products diffuse or use active transport through villi, which lines the intestinal wall. Glucose and amino acids are absorbed into the capillaries.

Elimination of Solid Waste

Faeces are formed and stored in the rectum before being passed out of the body through the anus.
